PREPARATION:

What to Bring…

Clothing:

The more the better!  We encourage you to bring plenty of different wardrobe options,  at least 6 options for the photographer to choose from.  The options should vary in style and color to ensure that you get a diverse selection of portraits.  Some ideas of different styles (of course, staying within your own personal style) are: casual, trendy, dressy, sporty, classic, etc.  We highly encourage you to show off your own style in whatever ways you like, although it is a good idea to bring a few basic pieces as well (solid colored, long sleeved, etc.).  Another thing to keep in mind is a variety of seasonal clothing, meaning don’t bring just tank tops and shorts; make sure you throw in some jeans, jackets, sweaters, etc. if you’d like!  Also, it is very important that you know your school’s requirements for yearbook photos, as some schools have dress codes.

Accessories:

Accessories are always fun to add into senior portraits!  If you have a hat or pair of sunglasses that you can’t live without, bring them!  Girls, jewelry is always great.  There are a lot of accessories to keep in mind; belts, scarves, hats….and of course SHOES.  Sometimes it is easy to put together a bunch of outfits and forget the shoes!  Make sure you have shoes to go with all of your wardrobe options.

Props:

This includes anything that represents you and who you are, anything that’s important to you.  If you play sports, bring your gear!  Sticks, balls, skis, skateboards…it all makes for great photos!  Other ideas are instruments, anything you might collect, your favorite pet, etc.  Just make sure you give us a heads up if you plan on bringing an animal.

What to Prepare…

Hair:

Girls- please come with your hair already styled.  If you choose to do any up-dos, make sure to come with your hair down first, then we can work our way into the up-do.  Please note, hair changes DO cut into your session time, so if you plan on doing a hair style change, make sure it is one that can be done in a few minutes!

Guys- Well…your options might be a little more limited, but just make sure to come with it styled how you want it styled.  No hat hair!

Make-up:

Girls- It will always look like you are wearing less makeup in the photo than you actually have on.  Not saying you want to cake it on, but it’s good to “enhance” what you would normally do.

Guys- No need to worry about trying to cover up any blemishes, we take care of that in editing.

Nails:

You never know when hands or feet might make their way into a portrait, so it’s good to make sure nails are clean or polished.

SELECTING YOUR PHOTOS:

A selection appointment will be scheduled on the day of your session, as soon as seven days out.  The selection appointments are held in our theater, where you get to view all your photos projected on the big screen!

**HELPFUL HINTS:  Choosing your senior photos can feel a bit overwhelming, which is why it’s always a good idea to start thinking ahead of time about what you need and want.  It is helpful to start a list… grandparents want this, aunts and uncles will want this, you need this… you get the idea.  It also helps us know how we can help you!

***A note to parents:  We would love for you to be involved in your senior’s portrait experience!  Assisting them with what wardrobe to bring, encouraging them to bring things that are important to them (soccer ball, instrument, etc.), and accompanying them to their session are all great things to do to help!  Although, during the actual photographing, we ask that you allow them some space and privacy, as getting professional photographs taken can feel a little intimidating.  We don’t want to add any pressure by allowing groups of people to watch them perform!  We just want to ensure that we get the best possible portraits of your son or daughter.  Of course there are exceptions to our request, and we just ask that you let us know so beforehand.
